On December 22, the 12th National Congress of the Chinese Geographic Society was held in Beijing. The twelfth council and the first board of supervisors of the Chinese Geographic Society were elected. Professor Wu Zhengfang, dean of the School of Geographic Sciences of NENU, was elected as the Standing Director and Vice-Chairman of the New Council of the Chinese Geographic Society (12 Vice-Chairmen were elected by the General Assembly). Professor Wang Shijun of the School of Geographic Sciences of NENU was elected as supervisor (4 supervisors were elected in total by the General Assembly).
The Chinese Geographic Society is one of the earliest academic organizations established in China. It has a glorious history of 110 years. It is a national, public welfare and academic social organization composed of volunteer geographers, registered in the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China according to law, with independent legal personality. It is also an outstanding representative of 210 national societies affiliated to the Chinese Association of Science and Technology and an important component as well as an important social force for the development of Geographic Science in China. The Chinese Geographic Society has 20,000 members. It has 22 professional committees, 10 sub-committees and 9 working committees. It contacts 31 local societies and sponsors and co-sponsors 18 academic and popular science journals.
