  Graduate Education

We started the graduate education in 1953 as one of the earliest in our country. Since the renewed system of graduate enrolment in 1978, we have achieved a lot of progress. Up to now, the number of graduates and students of graduate classes has been more than 5,300. More than 500 students have got doctor degrees. There are more than 2,700 existing graduates in our school now.

In recent years, the development of graduate education has come into a new stage of fast development. Now there are 147 M.A. degree specialties, and 78 Ph.D. degree specialties. There are 9 faculties authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 11 disciplines with Post-doctoral R&D Stations, 5 key disciplines of The National Institution of Higher Education, 8 disciplines among the construction projects of the key disciplines of the national "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and the "211 Project" and 18 disciplines among the key subject program of Jilin Province. Three disciplines are personnel training and scientific research bases of the national fundamental disciplines of arts and sciences; 2 disciplines are among the key research bases for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education; 6 laboratories and research centers are above the ministry level. In addition, NENU possesses several national training programs and research institutes such as Preparatory School for Chinese Students to Japan (PSCSJ ).

In 2004, having been evaluated by the State Ministry of Education, our university was granted to set up graduate school. Since the trial practice of graduate school in 2000, the academician faculties have been making significant improvement in terms of scope and structure under the strategy of "Talents Strengthening the University". They are seeking ways to optimize the cultivation plans and reforming the cultivation models. The disciplinary construction has developed so fast that in areas of doctoral school, master school, key disciplines of the State, and key research base of Social Humanities under the State Ministry of Education have achieved great success. A comparatively mature disciplinary group has been formed with Education, History, and Biology as its main force. Meanwhile, active research has been undertaken in setting up systems of restraint-oriented degree and of guaranteed quality of graduate education.
