Recently, the School of Environment of NENU has launched a joint field practice program for students of ecology among Northeast Normal University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and Chongqing University. 70 students and 11 supervisors participated in the program. The practice lasted for 12 days and the journey was 2,300 kilometers. The route runs through the east and west of Jilin Province and covers seven major ecosystem types.
The practice adopts the problem-oriented teaching model. Students of the three universities carried out field investigations and experimental research on typical ecological and environmental problems of wetlands, grasslands, forests, lakes, rivers and farmland in Xianghai National Nature Reserve of Jilin Province, Songnen Grassland Ecological Research Station of Northeast Normal University, Longwan Wetland Research Station, Changbai Mountain National Nature Reserve of Jilin Province and Changbai Mountain Forest Ecosystem Positioning Station of Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc..
The School of Environment of NENU has been seeking to involve other universities and research institutes, in the field practice in ecology and employ well-known scholars and industry experts at home and abroad as practice instructors. In recent years, the school has cooperated with the Institute of Applied Ecology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liaoning Provincial Environmental Protection Research Institute, Dalian University of Technology, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, Shenyang Normal University, Chongqing University, etc.. Significant achievements have been made in the improvement of students' professional ability, the cultivation of ecological subject vision and the building of teamwork spirits. Among the partners , the Hong Kong Institute of Education has participated in the joint practice for four consecutive years.
