On June 12-14, the finals of the 23rd "FLTRP · ETIC Cup" English Debate Competition was held in Beijing Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press Building. Lu Xiangjie and Chen Hanyun (instructor Nie Aiping), 2018 undergraduates of School of Foreign Languages, successfully advanced to the national finals with ranking the third place, advanced to the top 16, and won the national first prize. More than 400 teams from universities across the country participated in the competition.
The "FLTRP · ETIC Cup" English Debate Competition, sponsored by Beijing Foreign Studies University and undertaken by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, has been successfully held for 23 sessions since its first establishment in 1997. The competition uses the British parliamentary debate system (also known as the World University Debate Competition system). There are four teams in each round, with two teams from the pros and cons, and two people from each team, making opening statements and concluding remarks respectively.
After 23 years, the "FLTRP · ETIC Cup" English Debate Competition has developed into a high-standard, large-scale authoritative competition, which has been included in the "List of Innovative Talents Training and Discipline Competition in Chinese Universities" issued by the Higher Education Institute of the Ministry of Education. The achievements of the competition in promoting teaching and educating people by competition have been continuously concerned and recognized by the academic discipline.
