Recently, the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences unveiled the “Notice on Commending Outstanding Units and Individuals for ‘College Students on their Way’ in 2021”, the Natural Science Museum of NENU and many teachers and students were commended. The Natural History Museum was award the “Excellent Organization Unit”, Li Zhenxin, teacher of the School of Environment, and Zuo Bin, teacher of the Natural History Museum, were awarded “Excellent Instructors”. The “Fireflies Environmental Protection Team”, “BSG Team” and the “Twilight Team” composed of student volunteers from the School of Environment were awarded the “Excellent Teams”, Zhang Yangjie and Li Xu, students of the School of Environment, were titled “Excellent Volunteers”.
“College Students on their Way” is a nationwide large-scale environmental protection public welfare activity initiated by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and supported by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Chinese Association for Science and Technology. It has been continuously on the list of the “12th Five-Year Plan” and “13th Five-Year Plan” of the “Plan for implementation of the programme for the implementation of the action plan for the national scientific literacy” of the State Council.
At the beginning of 2021, in order to fully and thoroughly implement President Xi Jinping’s spirit of ecological civilization and improve the scientific quality and environmental awareness of the whole people, the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences continued to organize “College Students on their Way” nationwide. As the “National Ecological Environment Science Popularization Base”, the Natural Science Museum of NENU undertook the organization task of Jilin Province. The Natural History Museum organized more than 180 college student volunteers from the three universities of Northeast Normal University, Changchun University of Technology and Yanbian University to carry out the “Jilin Province ‘College Students on their Way’ in 2021” activity themed on “protecting the fertile soil, caring for nature, green development-strengthening biodiversity protection and contributing to the carbon peak”. Activities of ecological environment science popularization rich in content and diverse in forms were launched through a combination of online and offline targeted on the community residents, grassroots leaders, rural women and children and other groups covering tens of thousands of relevant people. The event not only won multiple commendations from the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, but also shared the experience of the event in the 165th issue of the November 2021 issue of “Green Living”.
