On October 13th, the Social Science Department of NENU organized a symposium on the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences. Present at the meeting were president Liu Yichun, vice president Han Dongyu, deans of liberal arts-related schools (departments), and people in charge of the key research bases of humanities and social sciences, teacher education research institute and ideological and political education research center. The symposium focused on thoroughly implementing the spirit of the promotion meeting of the Ministry of Education’s knowledge system of philosophy and social sciences and the promotion project of university consulting service ability, and focused on realizing the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences. The meeting was chaired by Bai Bing, director of Social Science Department.
At the meeting, Han Dongyu systematically interpreted the contents of the speech delivered by Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education, at the conference on the construction of knowledge system of philosophy and social sciences and the promotion of university advisory service capacity based on the new situation and new tasks of the current development of philosophy and social sciences. He pointed out that the “capability improvement project” is an important starting point for implementing the Action Plan for the High-quality Development of University Philosophy and Social Sciences in 2035 and promoting the work of university philosophy and social sciences in the next five to ten years. It is necessary to deeply understand the connotation and essence of the project’s great significance, major tasks, organization and leadership, deeply understand the reform ideas of policy system and resource allocation and supply led by major issues research projects, and constantly consolidate and expand the advantages and characteristics of philosophy and social sciences research of NENU.
Subsequently, the heads of relevant scientific research units attending the meeting expressed their opinions and suggestions in combination with the characteristics of their respective disciplines and thinking of scientific research work. Everyone agrees that in the face of the new development requirements, the social science forces of our school should further consolidate ideological consensus, clarify strategic objectives, deepen the power of reform, speed up the change of mode, and actively respond to the major changes that are about to take place or have already taken place in the current organizational mode, research paradigm and knowledge system of philosophy and social sciences.
After listening to everyone’s speeches, Liu Yichun appreciated the promptness of NENU for holding this symposium. He pointed out that to build China’s independent knowledge system, first of all, we should solve two problems: self-inheritance and development and international communication, and then, by building a “the four-sphere integrated plan” work pattern, we can produce “a group of five” means of significant achievements. He stressed that it is necessary to give full play to the leading and demonstrating effects of the three “first-class disciplines” of philosophy and social sciences in our school on other liberal arts, break through existing research methods and research paradigms, and take the lead in realizing methodological innovation. It is necessary to scientifically understand the connotation of organized scientific research, constantly strengthen the coordination of literature, history and philosophy through goal traction and task driving, and then realize systematic integration and interdisciplinary integration, and comprehensively enhance the soft power of philosophy and social sciences. Efforts should be made to strengthen the function of think tanks in a new type of university with Chinese characteristics, clarify the scientific nature of philosophy and social sciences, and actively integrate them into major national strategies and the layout of think tanks, so as to build a research phalanx of think tanks at different levels.
In the following steps, NENU will organize various scientific research units to continue in-depth discussions among teachers, and put forward specific ideas and work plans on how to solidly promote the construction of the discipline system, academic system and discourse system of philosophy and social sciences in NENU, and accelerate the improvement of knowledge system construction and university advisory service ability. After that, the Social Sciences Department will also organize group discussions and exchange reports, and guide the whole school to form a basic consensus on organized scientific research and emerging cross-research fields with key layouts in the future, so as to jointly promote the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences in NENU.
