Recently, the award ceremony of the first “Jianjun Scholarship” Literary Translation Competition hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of NENU and the appointment ceremony of Ms. Li Ruomu as a part-time postgraduate instructor were held online. Present at the event were review expert representatives, former vice president of NENU, Professor Yang Zhong, director of NENU’s Work Committee, the Alumni Work Office (Northeast Normal University Education Foundation Secretariat), the leadership team of the School of Foreign Languages, the “Jianjun Scholarship” donor Ms. Li Ruomu, instructors of Translation Teaching and Research Center and the 2021 and 2022 translation graduate students.
The event was hosted by Qiu Yunlong, deputy secretary of the Party committee and deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages. He introduced the background of the competition, the registration and the review process to meeting attendents.
On behalf of NENU’s education foundation, Liu Yi extended congratulations on the successful holding of the first “Jianjun Scholarship” literary translation competition, and expressed heartfelt thanks to the School of Foreign Languages for its high attention, thoroughly planning, careful organization, and Ms. Li Ruomu’s donation of scholarship for NENU’s development and construction. He said that in the future, the foundation will continue to play the role of helping with the development of education, serve the talent training and discipline construction of the school, and join hands with the school to contribute to the comprehensive promotion of NENU’s “double first-class” construction.
Professor Zhang Hongwei, director of the Translation Teaching and Research Center of the School of Foreign Languages, unveiled the list of award-winning students. Lu Wenqi, the first prize winner of the first “Jianjun Scholarship” Literary Translation Competition, a 2021 student majoring in translation of the School of Foreign Languages, spoke on behalf of the award-winning students. Professor Qu Yingmei, deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages, read out the Decision of the School of Foreign Languages of Northeast Normal University to hire Ms. Li Ruomu as a part-time postgraduate instructor.
Li Ruomu thanked NENU and the school for their attention to the “Jianjun Scholarship”. She said that she was very much honored to be hired as a part-time instructor for graduate students of the School of Foreign Languages. She would do her best to help the school’s talent training and increase the amount of donations in 2023. She also encouraged the students to cherish the learning opportunities, improve their professional skills, and grow into capable foreign language talents as soon as possible.
Finally, Professor Zhou Guijun, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, made a concluding speech. On behalf of the school, he thanked Ms. Li Ruomu for funding the establishment of the “Jianjun Scholarship” and being invited to serve as a part-time postgraduate instructor, thanked NENU’s education foundation for founding a development platform for the school, and thanked the teachers and students for their active participation and fruitful work. Afterwards, he introduced the talent training of the school and the construction of the translation program. He pointed out that the School of Foreign Languages attaches great importance to the cultivation of high-level translators and interpreters, and the school has an excellent academic tradition and profound academic background.
