From November 2nd to 4th, the China (Jilin) Summit Forum on Natural Disaster Risk and Comprehensive Disaster Reduction and the Annual Meeting of the Professional Committee on Natural Disaster Risk and Comprehensive Disaster Reduction of the Chinese Geographical Society were held simultaneously at Changchun International Convention and Exhibition Center online and in Beijing Normal University offline. The conference was sponsored by the Professional Committee of Natural Disaster Risk and Comprehensive Disaster Reduction of the Chinese Geographical Society, undertaken by Northeast Normal University and other units, and co-organized by Yanbian University and other units. Present at the meeting were more than 2,000 people from more than 20 universities, research institutes and government departments, including Beijing Normal University, Sichuan University, Wuhan University, East China Normal University, Northeast Normal University, Institute of Geographical Sciences and Resources of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and China Institute of Meteorological Sciences.
The opening ceremony was held on the morning of November 3rd, and was presided over by Professor Zhang Jiquan, deputy director of the Professional Committee of Natural Disaster Risk and Comprehensive Disaster Reduction of the Chinese Geographical Society and the School of Environment of NENU. Participating at the opening ceremony were Academician Chen Fahu, Chairman of Chinese Geographical Society, Professor Shi Peijun, Director of Expert Committee of National Disaster Reduction Committee, Director of Professional Committee of Natural Disaster Risk and Comprehensive Disaster Reduction of Chinese Geographical Society, Academician Cui Peng of Chengdu Institute of Mountain Disaster and Environment, Ministry of Water Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Chang Qing, Vice President of Northeast Normal University, Professor Hu Ming, Secretary of Party Committee of Changchun Institute of Technology, Professor Lin Zhehao, former Vice President of Yanbian University and Professor Zhu Weihong, Professor Wu Shaohong, expert of Research Institute of Geography and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Cheng Xiaotao, Deputy Chief Engineer of China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research. At the opening ceremony, Academician Chen Fahu delivered a speech on behalf of the Institute, Professor Shi Peijun delivered a speech on behalf of the professional committee, and Professor Hu Ming and Professor Zhu Weihong delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer and co-organizer of the conference respectively. Finally, Chang Qing delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer of the conference, congratulating the convening of the academic conference, introducing the development history of NENUand the School of Environment, and affirming the work and research achievements of the disaster risk and ecological security research team of NENU.
The theme of the conference was “Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management and Building a Resilient Society”. Around the theme of the conference, Academician Cui Peng, Professor Shi Peijun, Professor Wu Shaohong, Professor Cheng Xiaotao and Professor Jiang Lu of Qinghai Normal University made special speeches, and Professor Zhai Guofang of Nanjing University, Professor Wen Jiahong of Shanghai Normal University, Researcher Ren Fumin of China Meteorological Science Research Institute, Professor He Chunyang and Fang Weihua of Beijing Normal University made keynote speeches. The conference designed 18 topics, set up 9 sub-venues, gave 80 presentations, and selected 4 outstanding report winners for graduate students.
After the meeting, the staff organized the participants to visit the 4th Northeast Asia (Jilin) Safety Emergency Industry Expo. The conference won unanimous praise. This conference provides a platform for experts, scholars, scientists, managers and graduate students in this field to exchange scientific research findings and academic innovations. At the same time, it has laid a solid foundation for establishing academic cooperation in the future.
