On November 18th, Liu Yichun, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice chairman of Jilin Association for Science and Technology, and president of NENU, was invited to Mingzhu School attached to Northeast Normal University to participate in a series of activities of “Science Popularization for Scientists on Campus”, and gave a lecture on science popularization with the title of “Magic Interface, Different Functions”.
Liu Yichun started with the ubiquitous interface in life, and analyzed how the micro-structure of the interface affects its macro-function: the superhydrophobicity caused by the micro-nano synergistic effect of the interface not only makes the lotus emerge from the mud without being stained, but also can be applied to the surfaces of clothing, automobiles and buildings to make it self-cleaning. The microstructure of the interface can affect the reflection of different wavelengths of light, so that butterflies have colorful wings, and it can also significantly increase the density of light storage, making it possible to perceive and store holographic images. The tens of billions of nerve cells in the human brain are also interfaces. If we can use electronic components to simulate the interaction between synapses, we can further analyze how the brain’s behaviors such as memory, forgetting and learning come into being. At the end of the lecture, Liu Yichun talked about the exposition of education, science and technology and talents in the Report to the 20th CPC National Congress of the Party: science and technology is the first productive force, talents are the first resource, and innovation is the first motive force. He hopes that students can set up lofty ideals, persist in scientific exploration and practice, and shoulder the historical responsibility of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in the future.
Before the lecture, Liu Lijun, Party Secretary and President of the Mingzhu School Attached to NENU, presented Liu Yichun with the letter of appointment of honorary president of Mingzhu Academy of Juvenile Sciences on behalf of all teachers and students. Liu Yichun also participated in the exhibition activities of students’ practical works of science and technology, watched the teaching activities of 3D printing teams, and got an in-depth understanding of the school’s curriculum development and teaching practice results in the field of science and technology innovation education. When watching the exhibition board of Mingzhu Academy of Juvenile Sciences, he praised the relevant courses and proposed to make full use of local resources in Jilin Province to benefit more children. At the end of the activity, Liu Yichun presented books to the student representatives who had made outstanding achievements in scientific and technological innovation activities, encouraging students to “develop the habit of observation and reflection, and cultivate the practical ability of design”. He also encouraged students to love the motherland, advocate science and study hard, and grow into builders and successors to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Nearly 7,000 teachers and students from Mingzhu Campus, Ziyou Campus and Jingyue Campus of the Middle School attached to Northeast Normal University watched the popular science lecture synchronously in the class through campus TV. More than 11,050 teachers and students from more than 30 primary and secondary schools watched it online such as Suzhou, Xiong’an, Anda, Fusong and Tongyu, the experimental area of teacher education innovation of Northeast Normal University.
