In recent years, Associate Professor Huo Yang and his team from the School of Physics have developed a new method for the resource utilization of iron-rich sludge. They have successfully addressed the production challenges caused by the large inventory and high disposal costs of iron-rich sludge in the manufacturing industry, as well as the environmental risks that lead to production limitations and restrictions. Their research has enabled the large-scale production and widespread application of polythionates as coagulants derived from iron-rich sludge.
Throughout the project research and promotion process, the team has cumulatively published 20 papers and obtained 8 Chinese invention patents and 2 international invention patents. Some of their achievements have won the first prize in the China Invention and Entrepreneurship Innovation Award in 2022 and the second prize in the Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Award (Technical Invention) in 2023.
