Academician Hao Shui Gives a Lecture about the Past, the Present, and the Future of Life Science to Students of School of Life Science

Published:October 28, 2005 Review:

In spit of the chill in late autumn, Academician Hao Shui, as a guest of “two-hundred forums”, arrived at the 3rd classroom of School of Life Science at 3 p.m. on Oct. 27th to give a lecture about the past, the present, and the future of life and life science. Most of the teachers, postgraduates, undergraduates in School of Life Science and some students from other colleges listened to his report. Academician Hao shared his life experiences, which are full of frustration and achievements, with all the participants. He also gave a brief introduction about the project and area in which he is studying now, and the current hot issues in the area of plant cytology. From his report, people can feel Academician Hao’s great devotion to scientific research and education, and can see the scholar is a knowledgeable, straight forward and modest master with firm political belief and the spirit of perseverance in seeking truth. The forum also offered a chance for teachers and students to interact with Academician Hao through the form of “interview-discussion-question”. His rigorous and refined words and the glamour of his personality were greeted with warm applauses. The lecture was held in a good atmosphere, and there were so many audience that some even had to stand in the corridor outside the classroom. "Inspiration is needed for the success of scientific research, but thinking conscientiously is much more needed.” That is the simple statement made by Academician Hao about his own successful experiences, and also is his earnest guidance and deepest hope for the contemporary young scholars.
