According to Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China in Statistics of 2004 Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers, 343 papers were cited by SCI, EI, or ISTP with "Northeast Normal University" as Author Affiliations, among which 255（274）SCIE papers, 60 EI disk papers, and 28 ISTP papers. Below are the details.
1.SCI papers increased from 130 in the previous year to 172 in 2004, with which NENU rose to the 28th among the higher education institutions of China. The number of citations was 570, compared with 397 in 2003, ranking the 19th.
2.255 (274) SCIE papers, 16 more than in 2003, rising to the. 28th from the 32 th.
3.60 EI papers, 10 more than in 2003, rising to the 66th from the 65th.
4.28 ISTP papers, 10 more than in 2003, rising to the 86th from the 96th.
5.According to the statistics of Chinese Scientific and Technical and Citations Database (CSTPCD), NENU has 279 papers published home in 2004, ranking the 164th; 1176 citations domestically, ranking the 69th.
6.According to papers cited by 2004 SCIE in disciplines, Chemistry of NENU ranked the 20th among 168 papers (of all types), while Biology ranked the 20th among 35 (all types) papers.
