With the purpose of developing mid-western China and providing underprivileged students with the opportunity to receive higher education, Toyota Motor Corporation donated 20 million RMB to China's Song Qing Ling Foundation. The "Toyota Study Assistance Fund" was established with the goal of selecting from 20 prestigious universities, 1,000 students from mid-western China and to support them for a smooth completion of their tertiary education. Along with other universities such as the University of Science and Technology of China, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Wuhan University, Central South University and Harbin Institute of Technology, NENU was selected as one of the 20 universities, each of which will receive a one million RMB scholarship fund. A donation ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People on March 21. NENU's Vice Party Secretary and Vice President Yang Xiaohui attended the ceremony on behalf of the school.
