On Oct.17th, the Evaluation Team under Ministry of Education on College Undergraduate Teaching of English Major began the evaluation work in NENU. The Evaluation Team is composed of Professor Shi Jian, Vice-President of Sichuan University, Professor Huang Guowen, President of the Functional Linguistic Institute of Zhongshan University, Professor Ning Yizhong, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Beijing Language and Culture University, Professor Xu Qinggen, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Suzhou University, Professor Qing Yuxiang of School of Foreign Languages of Hunan Normal University, and Xiong Ting, a teacher of School of Foreign Languages of Sichuan University.
At 10 o'clock in the morning, Self-Evaluation Report Meeting of English Major was held in the Conference Hall on the 8th floor in School of Foreign Languages. The experts of the Evaluation Team, President Shi Ningzhong, Vice-President Yang Zhong, Gao Hang, President Assistant and Dean of Education Administration Division, and other persons-in�charge of NENU, as well as teachers in School of Foreign Languages attended the meeting. Yang Zhong held the Welcome Meeting.
Shi Ningzhong gave an address at first. He said that in the course of preparation for the Evaluation of Ministry of Education on Undergraduate Teaching, the school-running conditions, education and teaching, and scientific research of the school had been greatly improved. Now, the school happily welcomed the Evaluation of Ministry of Education. The School of Foreign Language developed fast in recent years with the top rank within the school in years of discretion. The school reinforced the teacher’s force, trained numbers of talented persons and made great achievements by applications of teaching and scientific research results to teaching. Shi Ningzhong hoped that the experts of the Evaluation Team could seriously examine the teaching work of English major, propose pertinent advices for the development of English major.
Professor Shi Jian, the Leader of the Evaluation Team, gave a speech concerning the evaluation work. He said that the evaluation on the foreign language major of colleges was, after the Integral Evaluation on College Undergraduate Teaching, another important part to advance "the Quality Project"of Ministry under Education. It is also an important measure of Education Ministry to strengthen the macro-management, and a significant move to carry out and fulfill the Higher Education Law of the People’s Republic of China. Professor Shi Jian hoped that the evaluation could gain the support from the leaders of the university, the teachers and students of the School of Foreign Languages and fulfill the aim to"promote reform by evaluation, promote construction by evaluation, combine the evaluation with construction and put force on the construction". He wished a consummation to the Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation in English major.
Dean Zhang Shaojie gave a report to the experts of the Evaluation Team from 5 aspects including a survey on English major, basic thinking on school-running, education and teaching, achievement on personnel training as well as the existing problems and prospective solutions. The experts of the Evaluation Team heard the report carefully and raised questions concerning its content.
After the meeting, the experts of the Evaluation Team visited the library of the university. They also attended classes respectively in the School of Foreign Languages before the meeting.
