Recently, the list of the independent disciplines and specialties within 2006 records of first-level disciplines was announced by Ministry of Education. Three independent second-level disciplines were authorized to confer doctoral degree including Rural Education (Education as first-level discipline), Asian Culture Studies (History as first-level discipline), and Environmental Planning and Management (Environmental Science and Engineering as first-level discipline). With the application ratified, currently, NENU has become entitled to confer doctoral degree in 9 first-level disciplines and 75 second-level disciplines (including 5 independent disciplines), in addition to master's degree in 18 first-level disciplines and 142 second-level disciplines (including 5 independent disciplines).
