From September 21st to 29th, on invitation of NENU, Diter von Westtstein, the foreign member of American Academy of Sciences visited NENU. On September 26th, Diter von Westtstein gave an academic report on the application of plant genetic engineering in the agriculture and the prospect of the plant science in Gallery of University History of the school. He also exchanged views with the teachers and students.
Zhang Shaojie, Vice-president of NENU, Feng Jiang, Assistant to President and Director of Science and Technology Management and persons in charge of related departments from School of Life and Science attended the lecture. Zhang Shaojie gave speech of welcome on behalf of NENU, and Feng Jiang hosted the lecture. After that, President Shi Ningzhong met Professor Diter von Westtstein, and presented Certificate of Guest Professor to him.
This visit was one of the series of planned activities of " Intellectual Introduction Project for the Discipline Innovation of Plant Genetics in China University System " approved by Education Ministry and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. Professor Diter von Westtstein also visited the laboratories of School of Life and Science, and had several discussions with the teachers and students.
