In order to assess the contributions every country made to the advancement and development of science, the science frontier analysis centre of Chinese Academy of Sciences designed "hc index" (i.e. "h" refers to highly cited papers, "c "refers to cited times). Statistics were collected from Chinese and other countries' scientific research institutions. According to the Science Watch, China ranks 5th in the field of chemistry, and NENU ranks 16th in the field of chemistry among China's scientific research institutions.
