NENU Holds Opening Ceremony for 2013 Overseas Students

Published:September 16, 2013 Review:

In the afternoon on September 13, a number of foreign students with different colors, clothes and languages sitting in the lecture hall on the third floor of history museum were 2013 overseas students who came to NENU from all over the world for further studies. NENU held a grand and economical opening ceremony for these overseas students. The ceremony witnessed more than 400 participants including President Liu Yichun, Vice President Feng Jiang, Dean of Graduate School Gao Hang, personnel in charge of Office of International and Cooperation and Exchange and other officers concerned as well as overseas students.

Feng Jiang delivered a speech that introduced historical development and current situation of NENU as well as international Chinese language education. He also made three proposals to encourage overseas students: to learn Chinese well and have a good command of Chinese as early as possible; to make a study plan and prepare for major learning; to learn and promote Chinese culture and be friendly emissaries for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges. Principals from School of Overseas Education, representative teachers and students also made a respective speech.

An American, Lin Dashan, as a representative of overseas students impressed participants most. When saying a sentence, he put up a card that reads the first letter of the sentence. Finally, these first letters constituted the Chinese phonetic alphabet of overseas students. His clever idea won the audience's warm applause.
