In August 1984 the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the national first Institute for the History of Ancient Civilizations in NENU. On October 11th, the Institute held an international symposium about “Retrospect・ Expectation” on its 30th anniversary. The deputy Party secretary of the Party Committee Wang Yan, the honorary professor and dean of the School of History and Culture Zhu Huan, the honorary director of the Institute Professor Wang Dunshu from Nankai University were present on the opening ceremony. Experts and scholars from more than 20 universities at home and abroad, from research institutes and from the press, some teachers and students from the Institute and the School of History and Culture also attended the opening ceremony.
On the opening ceremony on behalf of NENU Wang Yan delivered a speech. The scholars present retrospected the academic path of the past 30 years and discussed the development direction of the Institute. Scholars also exchanged ideas and thoughts on the symposium. On the close ceremony, Professor Zhang Qiang from the Institute expressed his thanks to the scholars for their support.
