The first Chinese Youth Volunteer Services Competition ended on December 4th, held by Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Ministry of Civil Affairs, China Volunteer Service Federation, and some other departments. Two projects conducted by NENU won Golden Prize respectively for caring migrant children and environmental protection, namely, “Hou Pu” Public Tutorial School for Children of Migrant Workers, and “Yan Zhi You Cha” Public Environmental Protection Volunteer Service,
This competition took almost one year, with 1524 volunteer services involved, from 31 provinces of the whole nation, Xinjiang Corps and organs directly affiliated to the Central Government System. After preliminary examination by the experts, 505 projects were selected into the final competition. There were 100 golden prizes produced in total after heated competitions. NENU is the one that wins the largest number of golden prizes.
Hou Pu Public School is a public tutorial school for migrant children launched by students from School of Chemistry. They have given free lessons to 3008 migrant children in the past five years since its foundation. The project team “Yan Zhi You Cha” from School of Business and School of Life Sciences is committed to promote the cultivation of Apocynum in saline-alkali land, and to improve local farmers' income while improving and treating saline-alkali land.
