From December 4th to 5th, the 13th Confucius Institute Conference was held in Chengdu. Sun Chunlan, Vice Premier of the State Council and Chairman of the Headquarters Council of Confucius Institute, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Han Dongyu, Vice-President of NENU, was invited to attend the conference, accompanied by the responsible persons in charge of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department. More than 1500 representatives from 154 countries and regions attended the conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education and Vice President of the Headquarters Council of Confucius Institute.
With the theme of "Reform and Innovate for Development, Join Hands to Create the Future", the conference held two thematic forums, eight Chinese and foreign principals’ forums and 20 workshops. During the conference, Han Dongyu had a full exchange with Chinese and foreign representatives of five Confucius Institutes of NENU, discussed and reached consensus on the key work plan for 2019. In separate talks with Confucius Institutes, the Chinese and foreign parties reached agreement on such projects as academic exchanges, multilateral academic seminars and Confucius Institutes Culture Day relying on Confucius Institutes.
Up to now, 548 Confucius Institutes, 1193 Confucius Classrooms and 5665 Teaching Points have been established in 154 countries and regions around the world. At present, NENU currently has five Confucius Institutes: Confucius Institute of Korea University of East Asia, Confucius Institute of Valencia University of Spain, Confucius Institute of Anchorage University of Alaska, Confucius Institute of Mongolian National University of Education and Confucius Institute of Santa Rica College of Canada.
