This year marks the 100th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement. Recently, the student representatives from the School of Mathematics and Statistics interviewed the academician Bai Zhidong in order to make young students of our university receive patriotic education and develop struggling spirit.
In the interview, Professor Bai recalled his youth period, shared his college life and the entire process of his first publication. He shared and emphasized the problems that should be noticed in learning, research and future work with young students by enumerating multiple examples and classic questions in statistics. Professor Bai constantly emphasized the importance of patriotism and told students to love our motherland. His ardent expectation and exhortation will inspire young students to struggle and pursue their dreams.
After the interview, the student representatives said that after listening to the vivid story of Professor Bai, it seemed that they had returned to the years of the past. While understanding the spirit of arduous struggle of the older generation, they also reflected on themselves. They believe that we need to struggle from generation to generation if we want to fulfill the “Chinese Dream” of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and build China into a socialist modernized power. Young students must be full of patriotic enthusiasm and shoulder historical responsibility and mission.
