All Students at NENU Attended an Ideological and Political Lecture on Epidemic Prevention and Control

During the critical period of preventing and controlling the novel coronavirus epidemic throughout the country, in order to transform the advantages of ideological and political theoretical teaching in universities into a powerful force to support the anti-epidemic struggle, the Social Science Department of the Ministry of Education and the People’s Daily Online jointly organized “national college students attend an ideological and political lecture on epidemic prevention and control”. On the afternoon of March 9, under the guidance and arrangement of the Academic Affairs Office, the Student Affair Department of the Party Committee and the Graduate School, the institute of Marxism specifically organized the undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students and ideological political teachers of NENU to watch and learn an online lecture on epidemic prevention and control. According to statistics, a total of 21 colleges (departments), 61 teaching classes, and more than 30,000 students participated in the lecture, receiving a strong response.

In this “Ideological and Political Lecture”, four professors Ai Silin, Qin Xuan, Wang Binglin, and Feng Xiujun, experts in the teaching and instruction committee of the Ideological and Political Department of the Ministry of Education, combined the theoretical understanding, system advantages, historical enlightenment and youth responsibility to conduct a wonderful lecture followed by a Q&A session. Teachers and students of NENU attended the lecture and had a heated discussion. We received more than 2,000 feedbacks from students in live broadcast, and more than 30 teachers of ideological and political courses interacted with students online.

Yuan Qingxiao, a 2019 undergraduate from the School of Information Science and Technology, said that he liked what Professor Feng Xiujun’s remark that “Patriotism is the greatest responsibility of the majority of young students”, and determined to constantly prepare himself in his growth and integrate the youthful individual into the grand era.

Melbyem, a 2017 undergraduate from the School of Psychology, said that through this lecture, he felt the institutional advantages of the Party and the state in coping with major affairs and saw the firm determination of Chinese people to fight against the epidemic together.

Yang Yujie is a class of 2019 graduate student from the Ideological and Political Education Center. Combining with the knowledge of his major, he put forward that young college students should seize this educational opportunity and turn crises into opportunities, and explore the theory and practice of deepening patriotism education.

Teachers of the ideological and political courses also gained a lot from learning together with students this time. According to teacher Yu Xiaoquan, “this interactive learning stimulated students' real attention and thinking and also made our teaching targeted”. Teacher Li Yumin said that this activity inspired us to carry out teaching in a more contemporary way of presentation and cases close to the daily life of students, so as to better grasp the essence and rules of ideological and political teaching.

In order to ensure the smooth development of this learning activity, our school has made an overall arrangement, and the whole school has worked together to formulate an implementation plan of “full coverage, emphasis on actual effect, and promotion of growth". First, to bring the ideological and political theory course into an overall teaching plan, and the ideological and political teachers organized all students to watch and discuss it immediately; second, to equip each school (department) with one-to-one ideological and political teachers, and to set up 21 ideological and political education classes, focusing on interactive learning; third, to organize graduate students to watch online lectures, and graduate students’ ideological and political teachers will answer questions and guide students to deepen theoretical research. We should carry out multi-party collaboration and make joint efforts for education, and commit to comprehensively improve the young students' Marxist theoretical literacy and ideological and moral standards, and cultivate new youth of the times with lofty ideals, patriotism and responsibilities.
