On May 31st, Professor Vicente Andreu, the foreign dean of the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia in Spain, published a signed article entitled “La semilla del señor Yuan” in the famous Spanish newspaper “Levante”. The article provided detailed information on the great achievements made by Academician Yuan Longping in the research and development of new rice varieties, and praised him as a “national hero” who has made outstanding achievements in solving the problem of feeding hundreds of millions of people in China. On June 2nd, in memory of the Academician Yuan Longping, the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia held a cooking competition with rice as the main ingredient to express gratitude to him.
Vicente Andreu is a professor in the Department of English and German Linguistics at the University of Valencia. Since 2007, he has served as the foreign dean of the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia. He is also the Spanish editor of the Chinese and Western bilingual magazine “Confucius Institute”. The Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia has been rated as the “Global Model Confucius Institute” and the “Best Confucius Institute in the World” three times. Vicente Andreu has been awarded the title of “Excellent Confucius Institute Dean” twice.
