In order to thoroughly research the relevant issues of public communication in the digital society, the second 2021 China Public Communication Forum hosted by the School of Media Science (Journalism School) of NENU and undertaken by the Research Center of Public Communication and Social Governance was held on October 30th. Hu Baijing, vice president of Renmin University of China, Wang Yan, deputy secretary of the party committee of NENU, and Zhang Wendong, dean of the School of Media Sciences (Journalism School) attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The forum was carried out online, so leaders, experts and scholars from inside and outside the province gathered online, and more than 3,000 people watched the live broadcast of the forum online.
At the opening ceremony, Wang Yan delivered a speech on behalf of Northeast Normal University. He said that the School of Media Science (School of Journalism) of Northeast Normal University held the second China Public Communication Forum, which demonstrated the responsibility and commitment of ministries and universities in the joint construction of colleges and universities. It is hoped that relying on the forum, a high-level academic research and exchange platform, a powerhouse may be established for public communication research in Northeast Asia. Zhang Wendong presided over the opening and extended a sincere welcome to all the guests present. He said that this forum is supported by the joint construction of ministries and universities, in order to further advance the research of public communication, and discuss the new subjects of public communication and social governance during the digital transformation period. In his speech, Professor Hu Baijing pointed out that public communication is a new situation that our country encounters in the process of modernization, and academic discussions in the field of public communication are becoming increasingly heated. The convening of this forum reflects the consciousness that academic research serves social practice and national development, and represents the effort that fully demonstrates the value of joint construction between ministries and universities.
The second China Public Communication Forum themed on “Transformation and Innovation: Public Communication in a Digital Society”, presided over by Shi Ce, vice dean of the School of Media Sciences (Journalism School) of NENU, eight well-known experts and scholars in the field of journalism and communication from Renmin University of China, Communication University of China, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Minzu University of China, Chongqing University and other universities were invited to give keynote speeches lasting two and a half hours. Subsequently, more than 60 participating scholars from multiple universities exchanged ideas and conducted dialogues focused on “Digital Governance and Public Participation”, “Mainstream Media and Public Communication in the Digital Era”, “Digital Survival of Diverse Groups”, and “Health Promotion and Science Communication in the Digital Era” and many other themes in four sub-forums. The sub-forums attracted nearly 500 teachers and students majoring in journalism and communication across the country to listen to the online meeting, and the forum was full of exchanges and enthusiastic discussions.
This forum has enhanced the influence of NENU’s journalism and communication disciplines and demonstrated the fruitful results of the joint construction of ministries and universities. It is hoped that the forum will continue to attract outstanding experts and scholars in the field of journalism and communication in China, deepen the research in the field of public communication, and create a new situation in the development of this discipline.
