In this battle of epidemic prevention and control, the teachers of Northeast Normal University not only care about the school and students, but also pay attention to the situation of epidemic prevention and control in Changchun. In the face of the sudden epidemic, they made the unanimous choice to become a volunteer and set an example for the students of NENU. The students of NENU also followed the teacher’s footsteps and staunchly threw themselves into the front line of the battle against the epidemic, building a beautiful landscape of themselves.
Ai Liguo: Goes into Battle and Fights on the Front Line with his Whole Families
Ai Liguo is the director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee of NENU. He is also a veteran with nearly 30 years of CPC membership. During the critical period of epidemic prevention and control, he took the initiative to be a volunteer, stepped forward, and fought on the front line of epidemic prevention and control with his whole families.
From the snowy winter to the lovely spring when the grass grows and the warblers fly, after experiencing biting cold winds, dusty sand, and the beginning of summer. Ai Liguo stuck to the point of the Wanxing Xingfucheng, first phase, in Fucheng Community, Kuancheng District for nearly 40 days, and worked 4 to 5 hours a day on average. The longest day he worked was from 8 am to 4 pm. During work, in order to reduce the frequency of going to the toilet and save protective clothing, he did not dare to drink water or eat. His lips were parched with thirst, but only when he got home dare he have a bite of the meal and a sip of water. He worked around day and night regardless of time, and even if he was exhausted, he had no regrets.
Encouraged by his example, Ai Liguo’s wife and son also signed up as community volunteers to help the community carry out epidemic prevention work. During the period of closed-off management, in the face of the dilemma of shortage of the manpower and limitation of the community work. Ai Liguo’s wife and son bravely took on heavy responsibilities and were temporarily appointed by the community as leaders. Although there are many difficulties, the family of three was not afraid and rose to the challenge.
The epidemic has not yet completely passed, and they are still holding on, never backing down in the face of difficulties, and showing any fears in the face of danger. This is a Communist Party member, and this is also a NENUer, who has fulfilled the mission of the Party members with practical actions and passed on the strength of NENU!
Wang Chang: Goes against Difficulties toward the Front Line
Since the outbreak of the epidemic in March 2022, Wang Chang from the School of Physical Education of NENU volunteered to take the lead, took the initiative to undertake the important task of delivering supplies, and became a transport volunteer of the Jilin Provincial Youth Development Foundation. Since March 15th, one million pieces of supplies have been moved and delivered.
Every morning at 5 o’clock in the morning, Wang Chang would get up and go to the Youth League school to receive supplies. After preparing for the morning, he would start delivering the supplies in the afternoon. When the epidemic was at its worst, he went to Siping, Jilin, Jiutai, Songyuan, Meihekou, Tonghua and other places to deliver more than 300,000 pieces of protective clothing, masks, medical masks and other supplies, with a cumulative driving mileage of more than 2,000 kilometers. He once picked up and delivered supplies without sleep for 48 hours. For him, sleep had become a luxury. Due to the high-intensity work every day, coupled with the protective clothing, his clothes were soaked with sweat after work. The continuous and high-intensity work has made him look even thinner than before, but Wang Chang is still fighting on the front line in the battle against epidemic with full enthusiasm, completing various tasks with high quality and quantity.
There is no such thing as a peaceful world. We feel like so because someone takes on the burdens for us! No one is born brave, and it is precisely because they are needed that they choose to go against difficulties and perform their duties firmly. Wang Chang is still running around on the front line of the battle against epidemic, showing the style of NENUers with his actions. He said: “Let us walk in the same direction and work hard together, I believe that the normal life will come back soon.”
Wang Shiguang: Takes the Initiative toBe aVolunteer and Face Difficulties
When the epidemic hit, the whole city pressed the pause button. Wang Shiguang from the School of Life Sciences of NENU actively responded to the call of the school Party committee, contacted the community as soon as possible, and joined the epidemic prevention and control work in the community. His work task is to ensure the supply of guaranteed supplies for 490 households and 1,150 people in Yatai Huafu Community, organize nucleic acid testing, maintain the order of residents in nucleic acid testing, check residents’ nucleic acid testing information and data, and distribute antigen detection tests.
In more than a month of continuous fighting on the front line of the epidemic, he and other volunteers in the community distributed more than 5,000 vegetable packs, eggs, milk, meat, rice, noodles and oil to community residents, distributed 23,000 antigen detection tests, and participated in the organization of nucleic acid testing for 10 days, volunteered more than 6 hours a day. “There is a strong smell of disinfectant in the corridor, sometimes I can’t open my eyes, sweat and breath blur my vision, and I can’t see the stairs clearly.” He put on protective clothing and climbed the stairs with heavy loads, panting and sweating. He had to climb the stairs 20 times a day, and his clothes were soaked with sweat. In order to save protective clothing and reduce the frequency of going to the toilet, he did not drink water and worked for 6 hours, often got exhausted.
Wang Shiguang took the opportunity of maintaining the order of nucleic acid testing for all members of the community to investigate the situation of the elderly living alone one by one. “There are 6 households with 9 people living alone in our community, in 6 different buildings.” He reported the first-hand information of the elderly living alone through the investigation to the community in a timely manner, and assisted the community to carry out the activities of caring and sending warmth to the elderly living alone, so that they could feel the warmth and affection of the Party and the government.
The teachers of Northeast Normal University are united to overcome the difficulties and become a major force in the prevention and control management of the campus and the off-campus community. As long as the Party gives an order, the NENUers can quickly assemble, move forward bravely, and pass NENU’s strength to the whole society!
