In order to further enhance the guidance ability of postgraduate instructors and improve the level of case teaching, on June 8th, the School of Media Science (School of Journalism) and the Graduate School jointly held a training meeting on the development of professional degree postgraduate teaching cases. The training was convened online, and Professor Luo Shujun, the winner of the 2020 National Excellent Teaching Case of Journalism and Communication Professional Degree from the Department of Journalism and Communication of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, was invited to give a report. More than 100 postgraduate instructors from various schools of NENU participated in this training meeting. Qin Chunsheng, deputy dean of the Graduate School of NENU, and Geng Xin, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Media Science (School of Journalism), attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The meeting was presided over by Professor Shi Ce, associate dean of the School of Media Science.
At the beginning of the training session, Geng Xin and Qin Chunsheng delivered speeches respectively. Geng Xin first expressed a warm welcome to Luo Shujun, and emphasized the importance of case teaching in improving the quality of professional degree postgraduate training. He hoped that through this training meeting, the exchange and sharing of cases among universities would be promoted. Qin Chunsheng said that strengthening case teaching is a beneficial practice to promote teaching reform and promote the organic integration of teaching and practice. The school attaches great importance to teaching case work and has issued corresponding incentive measures. It is hoped that all instructors will learn from the pioneers and actively promote the construction of the case database.
In the theme report, Luo Shujun took the development of teaching cases for postgraduates majoring in journalism and communication as an example, first introduced the mechanism guarantee and practical basis of the current teaching case development, and then combined with the development experience of award-winning cases, pointed out that teaching cases should be both interesting and valuable which should fully combine regional advantages and academic advantages. Next, Luo Shujun explained the three key issues of the development of teaching cases in a simple way: first, to think about the perspective, it is to elaborate and solve one core problem; second, to focus on the theory, it is to integrate theory around the solution of the problem; third, to return to teaching, it is to pay attention to writing of case instruction manuals. Finally, Luo Shujun summarized his thoughts on teaching case development, and pointed out that case development should pay attention to the integration of teaching and research, learn to draw from excellent cases of other disciplines, and improve the teaching effect.
In the dialogue session, Associate Professor Wu Wenxi, Director of the Journalism Department of NENU, as an academic interlocutor, had an in-depth discussion with Luo Shujun on issues such as selection of typical cases, cooperation between academia and industry, and team formation. Luo Shujun shared his own experience in case writing. He believes that the key to case selection is to clarify the problem to be solved, and to grasp the particularity and typicality. In the process of developing teaching cases, attention should be paid to the cooperation between teachers and students, so as to realize the effective connection between theoretical research and educational practice.
