Recently, the application of the key special project of the national key research and development plan “Intergovernmental International Cooperation in Science and Technology Innovation”, headed by Professor Zhou Ming of the School of Chemistry of NENU was approved and got funded. Titled “Low-cost portable biosensor for the detection of pathogens in water and food samples”, the project will be jointly conducted between Northeast Normal University and Al-Azhar University.
The detection of pathogens in water and food is of great significance to improve the world health level and human health. Developing portable biosensors for rapid and accurate detection of water quality and food quality has a great application prospect in China and even the whole world, with remarkable social and potential economic benefits. Aiming at the problem that pathogen detection in water and food mostly depends on complex instruments and professionals and is limited to specialized laboratories at present, this project plans to develop a low-cost fully integrated portable biosensor to realize low-cost portable detection of pathogens in water and food samples. Zhou Ming’s research team has been committed to the design, construction and development of fully integrated flexible portable and wearable bioelectronic devices (Figure 1). More than 100 articles have been published in internationally renowned journals and four related authorized invention patents have been obtained.
The key project of “Intergovernmental International Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation” is an important part of the national key R&D plan, and it is a scientific and technological cooperation project implemented under bilateral and multilateral intergovernmental agreements. In recent years, NENU has continuously innovated, focused on the “four orientations”, strengthened international and regional scientific and technological cooperation, promoted collaborative innovation, and achieved remarkable results. The successful implementation of this project will strongly support the construction and development of chemistry, materials science and engineering of NENU, promote the scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between NENU and countries along the “the Belt and Road Initiative”, and further enhance our international influence and scientific and technological competitiveness.
