On August 31, a thematic seminar for the 20th Changchun Film Festival, co-hosted by NENU and Changchun Film Group Co., Ltd., convened at NENU. The event was jointly organized by NENU’s School of Media Science (School of Journalism), the Social Science Department, the Script Center of Changchun Film Group, and Movie Literature Magazine.
The seminar brought together over 300 participants, including more than 20 leading experts and scholars from institutions such as Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Film Academy, Communication University of China, and Nankai University, as well as academic journal editors, members of the press, faculty, and students. Professor Shi Ce from the School of Media Science presided over the opening ceremony.
NENU Vice President Wu Zhihui attended the opening ceremony and delivered an address. He stated that NENU has long been committed to preserving Changchun Film Group’s history through academic research, supporting the film industry through talent cultivation, and invigorating the development of Chinese film through theoretical innovation. He also expressed hope that the seminar would serve as a new starting point for deeper collaboration between NENU and Changchun Film Group in advancing the high-quality development of Chinese film.
Zhuang Yan, Party Secretary and Chairman of Changchun Film Group, noted in his speech that the seminar’s focus on film history research and cross-cultural practices would promote multi-dimensional perspectives and methodological innovations in film studies. He expressed his hope that the assembled experts would provide constructive theoretical foundations and practical guidance for Chinese film, continuously enriching the experience and achievements in building a unique Chinese film arts system.
The opening ceremony also featured the inauguration of the Digital Film Archive Creation and Research Center of the Chinese Collegial Association for Visual Arts, and the launch of a new book commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of Changchun Film Group, Changchun Film Studio and the Construction of China’s Film Industry System (1949–1966).
In the keynote session, Professor Hu Zhifeng from Beijing Normal University, Professor Wang Haizhou from Beijing Film Academy, Professor Li Yang from Peking University, and Researcher Sun Jiashan from the Central Academy of Culture and Tourism Administration delivered reports on topics including “Reflections on 120 Years of Chinese Film,” “The Cultural Spirit of Chinese Film,” “Opportunities and Challenges in Global Film Studies,” and “The Cross-media Narrative of ‘People’s Film’.” The seminar also included two thematic forums: “Historical DNA: The Construction of Film Historiography and Regional Narratives” and “Contemporary Explorations: Cultural Criticism and Cross-media Narratives in Creative Transformation.”
This seminar provided a valuable platform for in-depth exchange and cooperation between Changchun Film Group and leading scholars. It also gathered cutting-edge wisdom to promote the high-quality development of Chinese film and injected new momentum into the development of NENU’s film and media disciplines.
