NENU Hosts "NENU Malaysia Students' Liberal Arts & Sciences Study Camp"

Published:September 28, 2025 Review:

The “NENU Malaysia Students’ Liberal Arts & Sciences Study Camp” sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under the Ministry of Education and organized by NENU, successfully concluded on September 25. Sixteen faculty members and students from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia gained a deeper appreciation for the charm of Chinese society and culture in the four-week program through a blend of classroom instruction, cultural immersion, and field studies. The camp’s curriculum integrated liberal arts and sciences, enabling students to broaden their global perspectives and deepen cross-cultural understanding by developing both their scientific thinking and humanistic literacy.

In the science and engineering sessions, Professor Gao Hang of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, a recipient of the “National Model of Teaching and Educating” award, delivered a special lecture exploring computational methods for geometric objects through deductive reasoning, showcasing the logical beauty and intellectual depth of mathematics. At the School of Physics, students engaged in hands-on lab work, including circuit soldering and sound-controlled circuit design. They also attended a lecture on “Memristors and Brain-like Intelligent Devices,” learning about the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and new chip technology. The humanities and cultural curriculum offered courses such as “An Overview of China,” “Chinese Culture,” and “Contemporary China,” guiding students to understand China from literary, historical, social, and linguistic perspectives. In addition, workshops on traditional Chinese culture, including calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese tea art, Tai Chi fan, the Hulusi, cloisonne enamel, and Peking Opera, allowed participants to experience the profound richness of Chinese culture firsthand. As part of the field studies, the group also visited the Changchun Culture of Water Ecology Park, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji City, where they learned about urban development and ecological conservation while appreciating the region’s natural landscapes and ethnic cultures.

At the closing ceremony, participants shared that the study camp offered them a systematic understanding of Chinese history and culture, as well as valuable cross-cultural communication experiences and lasting friendships with NENU teachers and students. The successful execution of this program not only highlights NENU’s distinctive interdisciplinary curriculum but also provides a new platform for cooperation and youth exchange between Chinese and Malaysian universities, further strengthening the “Study at NENU” program.
