To thoroughly implement the holistic approach to national security, strengthen national security education in the new era, harness the collective efforts of higher education institutions, and build a firm ideological foundation in national security awareness among faculty and students, the NENU consortium under the Ministry of Education’s Program of Synergy-based Quality Improvement in Teacher Education recently launched a series of live-streamed lectures titled “Sharing a Lesson in National Security Education.” The series has successively released its 9th, 10th, and 11th sessions, aiming to safeguard development through security education and to rally the energy of young people for the new journey of the 15th Five-Year Plan.
The 9th lecture, themed “Turbulence, Stability, and the Bigger Picture: National Defense Security and Youth Responsibility in an Era of Profound Change,” was delivered by Yang Jingsen, a retired division-level military officer and member of the national defense education lecture team. Centered on the profound changes unseen in a century, the session offered a systematic analysis of the root causes of global security instability and the security challenges facing China today.
The 10th lecture, titled “Ecological Security: The Green Baseline for a Major Country’s Survival,” was presented by Professor Bai E of Changchun Normal University. Centered on the holistic approach to national security, the lecture clearly explained the vital significance of ecological security as the environmental foundation for national survival and development. It also provided a comprehensive overview of China’s ecological resource endowment, current environmental challenges, and major national strategic initiatives.
The 11th lecture focused on “Technological Innovation and National Food Security” and was delivered by Professor Yang Chunwu of NENU. Drawing upon the holistic approach to national security, Professor Yang systematically introduced China’s core strategies for ensuring food security and shared vivid examples of scientific innovation in agriculture, including the breeding of Xiaobingmai wheat varieties, high-yield cultivation techniques, industrial promotion, and technology-driven rural assistance programs.
Covering key areas of national security such as national defense security, ecological security, and food security, the lecture series not only deepened faculty and students’ theoretical understanding of the holistic approach to national security, but also clarified the practical responsibilities of young people in safeguarding national security and fulfilling their mission in the new era.
Taking National Security Education Day as its starting point, the event series was jointly organized by NENU’s Academic Affairs Office and the School of Political Science and Law, with collaboration from Harbin Normal University, Liaoning Normal University, Zhejiang Normal University, Baicheng Normal University, Mudanjiang Normal University, and Yili Normal University. The event also served as an important initiative in advancing the National Security Education Virtual Teaching and Research Center led by NENU, while further promoting the development of high-quality “National Security Education” courses in accordance with national policy requirements.
