The 4th Northeast Asia Media International Symposium Held in Busan, the Republic of Korea

Published:May 25, 2026 Review:

The 4th Northeast Asia Media International Symposium was held on May 20 at Dong-A University in Busan, the Republic of Korea. The symposium was co-hosted by NENU and Dong-A University, and jointly organized by NENU’s Division of International Cooperation and Exchange, School of Media Science (School of Journalism), and Advanced Institute of Arts.

Under the theme “Mutual Learning, Integration, and Shared Progress: The Role and Responsibility of Northeast Asia,” the symposium focused on emerging developments in Northeast Asian media in the era of digital intelligence. It aimed to promote the development of an academic community for media studies in Northeast Asia and contribute to regional cultural exchange, mutual learning among civilizations, and international communication. Wei Min, Vice President of NENU, and representatives from the Division of International Cooperation and Exchange attended the symposium.

Wei Min delivered remarks at the opening ceremony, extending a warm welcome to participating scholars and experts. During the symposium, scholars from both countries engaged in in-depth discussions on a range of topics, including media practices in Northeast Asia, intercultural communication, industrial collaboration, and the construction of digital subjectivity.

This year’s symposium marks the first time that the Northeast Asia Media International Symposium has been held outside China. It represents an important step in NENU’s efforts to expand its international academic engagement and reflects NENU’s commitment to enhancing the quality of its internationalization and actively participating in regional academic dialogue. The symposium provides an important platform for advancing high-level international collaboration in media research and fostering an open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial academic community for media studies in Northeast Asia. It is expected to contribute to greater mutual learning among regional civilizations and promote the high-quality development of media industries and communication initiatives across Northeast Asia.
