On May 22, NENU held the inaugural degree defense based on practical achievements for graduate students enrolled in the “National Excellent Teacher Training Initiative” at the Ziyou Campus of the High School Attached to Northeast Normal University. More than 80 participants attended the event.
Following on-site presentations and oral defenses, Yang Zhe, a graduate student from the School of Chemistry, became the first student under the “National Excellent Teacher Training Initiative” at NENU to successfully defend a Master of Education degree on the basis of practical achievements.
The defense not only opened a new pathway for NENU’s Master of Education students to apply for degrees through practical achievements, but also established an exemplary model that is replicable, implementable, and scalable. The experience also contributed to NENU’s efforts to improve guidelines for selecting practice-oriented research topics, strengthen whole-process training and supervision, and develop a more scientific quality evaluation system for graduate education.
