The National Symposium on Ecology Discipline Development and Sustainable Utilization of Forest and Grassland Resources was held in Yanbian, Jilin Province, from August 22 to 25. The event brought together 127 experts and scholars from 47 universities and research institutes nationwide, along with officials in charge of doctoral and master's degree authorization programs in ecology, discipline leaders, and related representatives. The symposium focused on ecology discipline construction and talent cultivation, regional ecology discipline development, and sustainable utilization of forest and grassland resources, providing a forum for exchanging cutting-edge theories and practical experience in these fields. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Wang Zhiheng of Peking University, a Member of the Ecology Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
During the symposium, participating experts conducted a field trip to the Changbai Mountain Forest Ecosystem National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station in Jilin, where they gained further insight into the development of long-term ecological observation platforms and forest ecosystem research practices.
Bringing together experts, scholars, and discipline leaders in ecology from across the country, the symposium focused on key topics including ecology discipline construction, talent cultivation, and sustainable utilization of forest and grassland resources. Through thematic presentations, discipline discussions, and field trips, it provided an important platform for exchange and cooperation in ecology nationwide. The symposium further built consensus on the development of the ecology discipline, offering positive support for advancing its high-quality development, strengthening the cultivation of innovative talent, and serving the national strategy of ecological civilization development and sustainable development.
