The School of Mathematics and Statistics at NENU held a seminar on discipline construction earlier this month, with seven Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences—Xi Nanhua, Yuan Yaxiang, Zhang Pingwen, Fang Fuquan, Zhang Jiping, Bao Gang, and Liu Jianya—invited to attend and offer academic guidance. Xu Haiyang, President of NENU, was present, together with the director of the University’s Office of Science and Technology, members of the School’s Party and administrative leadership team, national-level talents, young research personnel, and representatives of the School’s young faculty.
Drawing on the high-level think-tank role and academic leadership of the invited CAS academicians, the seminar helped clarify strategic thinking and chart a direction for the School’s disciplinary development. It also aimed to build on the School’s historical legacy, sustain its established strengths and distinctive features, and provide continued impetus for the quality-driven, connotative advancement and leapfrog development of mathematics and statistics at NENU.
